RAFAEL CORONEL (nacido el 4 de octubre de 1931 en Zacatecas, México) es un reconocido pintor y muralista mexicano, considerado uno de los exponentes más importantes del arte contemporáneo en México. Desde temprana edad, mostró un gran interés por el arte, lo que lo llevó a estudiar en la Escuela Nacional de Pintura, Escultura y Grabado "La Esmeralda".

Coronel es conocido por su estilo distintivo que fusiona elementos figurativos con influencias surrealistas y simbolistas. Su obra se caracteriza por la representación de la figura humana, especialmente retratos que capturan la esencia y la complejidad del ser humano. A lo largo de su carrera, ha explorado temas relacionados con la identidad mexicana, el folklore y las tradiciones culturales.

Uno de sus logros más significativos es su participación en el movimiento muralista mexicano. Ha realizado murales en diversas instituciones y espacios públicos, donde su trabajo refleja la historia y la cultura del país. Además de sus murales, ha expuesto en numerosas galerías y museos tanto a nivel nacional como internacional.

A lo largo de su trayectoria, Coronel ha recibido diversos reconocimientos y premios que destacan su contribución al arte. A partir de 1956 ha presentado exposiciones de su obra en México, Estados Unidos, Japón, Puerto Rico y Brasil. Ha obtenido el Premio Córdoba en São Paulo, Brasil, (1965) y el Primer Premio en la Bienal de Tokio, Japón (1975). Su obra forma parte de importantes colecciones en museos y galerías alrededor del mundo.

Rafael Coronel continúa siendo una figura influyente en el ámbito artístico, inspirando a nuevas generaciones de artistas con su trabajo y su compromiso con la cultura mexicana.

RAFAEL CORONEL (born October 4, 1931 in Zacatecas, México) is a renowned Mexican painter and muralist, considered one of the most important exponents of contemporary art in Mexico. From an early age, he showed a great interest in art, which led him to study at the National School of Painting, Sculpture and Engraving "La Esmeralda".

Coronel is known for his distinctive style that fuses figurative elements with surrealist and symbolist influences. His work is characterized by the representation of the human figure, especially portraits that capture the essence and complexity of the human being. Throughout his career, he has explored themes related to Mexican identity, folklore, and cultural traditions.
